Slope stair Bitgum – Innovative Access to the Frisian Landscape

Commissioned by the Province of Fryslân and executed by Cnossen Infra, a 3D-printed concrete slope stair has been installed to bridge a height difference of 4.16 meters. The staircase consists of three prefabricated elements, each weighing approximately 890 kilograms, with a total effective length of 9 meters. Thanks to the automated printing process, the staircase was produced and installed quickly and efficiently, with minimal environmental impact.

This slope stair is a great example of how 3D concrete printing contributes to sustainable infrastructure. By using concrete only where necessary and eliminating the need for traditional formwork, up to 60% CO₂ emissions are saved compared to conventional construction methods. Furthermore, the printing process allows for design flexibility, enabling fast and cost-effective custom solutions.

With this project, the Province of Fryslân takes a step forward in applying innovative and eco-friendly construction technologies. The 3D-printed slope staircase in Bitgum is not only functional but also a testament to modern craftsmanship and collaboration.
