Qatar sets record with the world’s tallest 3D printed tower

In 2023, Qatar achieved a Guinness World Record with the construction of the world’s tallest freestanding 3D printed concrete structure. This iconic project, created for the Doha Expo, became a standout feature thanks to the collaboration between Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Saint-Gobain Weber, and Witteveen+Bos. The tower was designed not only to showcase technical excellence but also to make a bold statement about the future of sustainable construction.

The tower is a true innovation in design and engineering. With its interrupted circular structure and a striking 30-degree tilt, the project required 85 unique building blocks, each 3D printed to exact specifications. This approach minimized material usage while delivering a strong and efficient result. Speaking about the project, Marijn Bruurs, project leader at Witteveen+Bos, said: "This project demonstrates that boundaries can be pushed. Combining architectural freedom with sustainable techniques is a real gamechanger."

The remarkable structure, consisting of ten layers with eight or nine blocks each, reached a height of 12.4 meters. It was officially recognized as the tallest freestanding 3D printed concrete structure in the world. This record-breaking achievement highlights how innovative technologies can enable breathtaking designs while contributing to more sustainable and efficient construction methods. It’s an inspiring glimpse into what the future holds!
